You blatently just don’t have a clue, Gerrard is a ‘utility’ player? Don’t use words you’d don’t understand, a typical example of utility player would be someone like John O’Shea.
lionel messi the best. my friend wake up please. you aparently only started looking at football in 2007. messi and c ronaldo only flourish now because of poor defenses. they cannot pass defenders near the same pace (messi), or smart defenders (C. ronaldo). zidane was the best then ronaldo then ronaldinho my favourite player of all time, the entertaining thierry henry, roberto carlos, kaka, and then messi, and whoever else you feel like putting. no offense to gerrard he was bad
You need to remember Zidane and Ronaldo didn’t play much in the decade (2001-2010) but were rated high. You’re funny with that word “poor defences”, those guyz are good and you saying Gerrard is bad is funny.
Seriously mate, you’ve got no clue what Gerrard was in his days! Champions league win in 2005, final in that MOTM, Club footballer of the year in that year, that heart stopping olympiakos goal which took us through to the KO stages of the CL tournament we won, the magical goal in the FA cup final a year later, leading his team to the UCL final in 2007, being the 2nd highest goal scorer in 2008 and 2009 UCL season which for a midfielder is extraordinary. And imagine him doing all this with an average squad. Not the footballer with the most accolades, but clearly one of the most talented to have EVER played. And surely, one of the finest to have played in the past decade…
@kern jeremiah- Are you insane? Messi cannot beat defenders with pace? ‘MESSI’? He is quite simply the best dribbler the sport has ever seen. And he might just be ‘the’ greatest footballer(overall) ever to have set foot on the pitch. To add to all this, he is 24. Just 24. When he’ll hang his boots a dozen years later, he’ll be – like myself among millions of others do ‘already’- regarded by most as ‘the best ever’. By the way, he has been the FIFA Player of the Year in 2009 ‘and’ 2010 and in all probabilities will be so again, for a third consecutive time, in 2011 as well. He is simply THE BEST.
Why is paolo maldini not in the list
Paolo Maldini would probably be in the top ten list of the decade (1991-2000). He wasn’t at his best towards the end of his career. He is definitely one of the best defenders ever!!!

Figo should be dere 4 me- he was the world’s best player (along with Rivaldo) in 2000 and 2001 and he was clearly Real’s best player in 2004- unlike the rest of the so called galactico’s- who performed poorly. He played surprisingly well for Inter after that aswell. Rivaldo should also be dere- he was magnificent at the 2002 world cup aswell. I’m baffled no-one has mentioned DIDIER DROGBA- arguably the greatest premiership player of the last decade- unlike Henry who had a tendency to go missing in certain big games- Drogba nearly always rised to the occassion.

where’s footballers like figo , beckham , van nisterlooy , kahn , seriously , mess and ronaldo ? really ? they’re pretty good , but they start to play for real in 2007-2008 , when the best players was on one step tot retrire , so if you don’t put iniesta and xavi in this top , definetly mesii and c.ronaldo should not be there .. Shevchenko or Inzaghi should be also there .. Kaka was a young guy when he start play for real at Ac Milan in the starting line-up … so there’s a good top , but fair of the truth one .. :p

first of all the decade didnt start in 2001. do you consider 2000 a year of the 90′s? so i dont count 2010 in this list. i wouldnt say messi was the best player of the decade maybe the best of 09. for this decade mine would go 10. kaka 9. c.ronaldo 8.luis figo 7. messi 6.rivaldo 5. buffon 4. ronaldo 3. zidane 2. henry 1. ronaldinho. cmon ronaldinho was simply the unanimous best player of 2000-09. even goal.com agrees!
I think as far as the last decade is concerned, Messi and C Ronaldo where unknown from 2000-2006, but guys like Eto’o, Zizu, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho had already won several honours. I strongly believe Eto’o should be among the best strikers the world has ever know and among the 10 best of the last decade
