The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire won the African Cup of Nations in 1992. They have many good players and this list will show the top ten Ivoirian soccer players of all time.

10. Serge-Alain Maguy
Date of Birth: October 20, 1970 Serge-Alain Maguy Serge-Alain Maguy is one of the few Ivoirians to have played in most age level competitions of FIFA. Young Maguy was in Canada’87 U-17 World Cup when they won bronze. He played for Cote d’Ivoire in four consecutive African Cup of Nations (1988, 1990, 1992 & 1994). Serge-Alain Maguy is one of the best African midfielders of his generation.

9. Kolo Toure
Date of Birth: March 19, 1981 Kolo Toure Kolo Toure has played in four African Cup of Nations (2002, 2006, 2008 & 2010) and two World Cups (2006 & 2010). He was Arsenal’s central defender when they went undefeated for the whole season. Kolo Toure is one of the best defenders of his generation.

8. Ibrahima Bakayoko
Date of Birth: December 31, 1976 Ibrahima Bakayoko represented Cote d’Ivoire in four consecutive African Cup of Nations (1996, 1998, 2000 & 2002). He scored 30 goals in 45 matches for the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire and was voted third African Footballer of the year in 1999.

7. Joel Tiehi
Date of Birth: June 12, 1964 Joel Tiehi Joel Tiehi played in the African Cup of Nations from 1992 to 1998 and scored 11 goals. He was the only Ivorian that missed his penalty in the final match against Ghana when they won the African Cup of Nations in 1992. He is one of the best Ivorian strikers of all time.

6. Yaya Toure
Date of Birth: May 13, 1983 Yaya Toure Yaya Toure has represented Cote d’Ivoire in three African Cup of Nations (2006, 2008 & 2010) and was in the 2008 CAF Team of the Tournament. He was also in 2006 and 2010 World Cup. He is the ‘Patrick Vieira’ in the Ivorian team with his style of play. He is the 2011 African Footballer of the year and has few more years to play the game.

5. Alain Gouamene
Date of Birth: June 15, 1966 Alain Gouamene Alain Gouamene participated in seven consecutive African Cup of Nations from 1988 to 2000 which is an Ivorian record. He stopped two penalties in Senegal’92 final match against Ghana to help the Elephants win the African Cup of Nations and was selected as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

4. Abdoulaye Traore
Date of Birth: March 4, 1967 Abdoulaye Traore Abdoulaye Traore (Ben Badi) represented Cote d’Ivoire in six consecutive African Cup of Nations from 1986 to 1996. Ben Badi was the undiscovered Zidane of the 80’s, playing as an attacking midfielder or as a striker. He led a strong Ivorian team and they won the African Cup of Nations in 1992. They almost qualified for USA’94 World Cup finals ahead of Nigeria. Abdoulaye Traore is one of the best Ivorian players of all time.

3. Youssouf Fofana
Date of Birth: July  26, 1966 Youssou Fofana Youssouf Fofana represented Cote d’Ivoire in five consecutive African Cup of Nations from 1984 to 1992. Fofana was a household name in the 80’s because of his style of play and won the African Cup of Nations before he retired from the National team. He was the second African Footballer of the year in 1987 and was third in 1988. He was not only a Monaco FC star but also one of the Africa’s best midfielders ever.

2. Laurent Pokou
Date of Birth: October 8, 1947 Laurent Pokou Laurent Pokou is the second highest goal scorer in the African Cup of Nations with 14 goals in only two appearances (1968 & 1970). He was the overall highest goal scorer for twenty-eight years before he was toppled in 2008 by Samuel Eto’o. He was the second African Footballer of the year in 1970 and was third in 1973. He was a legend during his playing days despite that his country was an underdog during that period.

1. Didier Drogba
Date of Birth: March  11, 1978 Didier Drogba Didier Drogba is the all-time goal scorer in Cote d’Ivoire with 50 goals in 76 matches. He scored his country’s first World Cup goal in their first ever World Cup. He won the African Footballer of the Year in 2006 and 2009. He has been in three African Cup of Nations (2006, 2008 & 2010) and two World Cups (2006 & 2010). Drogba’s goal rate and strength is incomparable, he is the best Ivorian player of all time.
