Black Stars of Ghana have been to the FIFA World Cup twice and they have many good players that have proved themselves. The best Ghanaian soccer players ever are listed below.

10. Richard Kingson
Date of Birth: June 13, 1978 Richard Kingson Richard Kingson (Olele) impressive moves at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, 2008 African Cup of Nations and the 2010 FIFA World Cup is a justification of his inclusion on this list. He was in the All-Star Team in both 2008 and 2010 African Cup of Nations. He is also known as ‘Faruk Gursoy’.

9. Mohammed Ahmed
Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed (Polo) aka Dribbling Magician was in the Ghanaian team that won the 1978 African cup of Nations. He was the Ghanaian player of the year in 1975 and was 4th in the 1977 African Player of the year poll. Mohammed Ahmed is one of the most skillful Ghanaian players ever.

8. Stephen Appiah
Date of Birth: December 24, 1980 Stephen Appiah Stephen Appiah is probably the most successful captain of the Ghanian National team after leading the Black Stars to two World Cup finals. He won the U-17 World Cup in Ecuador’95 and was in both the 2004 Summer Olympics All-Star Team and the 2006 African Cup of Nations All-Star Team. He won the Ghanaian Footballer of the year in 2005 and 2007.

7. Ibrahim Sunday
Date of Birth: July 22, 1944 Ibrahim Sunday Ibrahim Sunday represented Ghana in the 1968 and 1970 African Cup of Nations. In 1970 he won the African Champions Cup with Asante Kotoko and was the African Footballer of the year in 1971. His two year period with Werder Bremen was unsuccessful as he was not regular in the team.

6. Asamoah Gyan
Date of Birth: November 22, 1985 Asamoah Gyan Asamoah Gyan scored Ghana’s first ever World Cup goal in Germany 2006. In 2010 FIFA World Cup he missed a penalty that could have taken the Black Stars into the semi-finals of the World Cup. He was the second African Footballer of the year in 2010 and was in the 2010 African Cup of Nations all-star team. Asamoah Gyan is one of the best Ghanaian strikers of all time.

5. Samuel Osei Kuffour
Date of Birth: September 3, 1976 Osei Kuffour Samuel Osei Kuffour won the U-17 World Cup with Ghana in 1991 and was also in the Japan’93 U-17 team that lost to Nigeria. He won silver with the Ghana’s U-20 World Cup team in Australia’93 and bronze in Barcelona’92 Summer Olympics. He was the second African Footballer of the year in 1999 and 2001. Samuel Osei Kuffour is one of the best defenders of his generation.

4. Karim Abdul Razak
Date of Birth: April 18, 1956 Karim Abul Razak Abdul Razak (The Golden Boy) won the African Footballer of the year in 1978 after helping Ghana to win the 1978 African Cup of Nations with his dazzling skills. He played in New York Cosmos alongside Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto. He was twice player of the year in Egypt in his two year spell with Arab Contractors. The Golden Boy is one of the most creative African midfielders ever.

3. Tony Yeboah
Date of Birth: June 6, 1966 Tony Yeboah Tony Yeboah is Ghana’s most prolific goal scorer. He is noted for scoring spectacular goals and his goal against Wimbledon in 1995 was the goal of the season in England. He was the third African Footballer of the year in 1992 and 1993. Yeboah is one of the best African strikers ever.

2. Michael Essien
Date of Birth: December 3, 1982 Michael Essien Michael Essien is both a defender and a midfielder and could fit into any team in the World. He represented Ghana at the 1999 U-17 World Cup and 2001 U-20 World Cup. He was in Ghana’s first ever World Cup in 2006 and also in the 2008 African Cup of Nations all-star team. He was the third African Footballer of the year on four occasions (2005, 2006, 2008 & 2009) and was second in 2007. Michael Essien is probably the best African Defender/Midfielder ever.

1. Abedi Pele
Date of Birth: November 5, 1963 Abedi Pele Abedi Pele was the African Footballer of the year in 1991 and 1992 and was ninth World Player of the year in 1992. He was the best player in the 1992 African Cup of Nations and also Ghana’s highest goal scorer with 33 goals. He provided the assist for Basile Boli in the 1993 UEFA Champions League final when Marseille defeated AC Milan 1-0. Abedi Pele is one of the most skillful soccer players ever.
